Why Laboratories Are Important
Working in laboratories involves the use of lab equipment to test for diseases and treat the diseases. Some of the samples that are tested in laboratories include urine, blood, and other fluids. Tissue can also be tested in the laboratory as well as other substances. General lab technicians and medical lab technologists are some of the people you will find working in a laboratory.
General lab technicians do not need as much education as medical lab technologists because they do not perform in-depth work. A bachelor’s degree is required for a medical lab technologist and sometimes advanced education to a masters degree. Doctors use the results that come from laboratories to determine the illness of a patient or to test for a specific illness in a patient.
Some of the work that goes on at LifeBrite Laboratories is the analysis of body fluids as well as tissue samples. After analysis, recording of the normal findings or even the abnormal findings is done. Another job that a LifeBrite Laboratories technician will perform is studying of blood samples to look for the blood type, the number of cells, and check whether the blood is compatible with other blood types.
When carrying out tests, LifeBrite Laboratories technicians and technologists, use special laboratory equipment such as microscopes and other equipment to carry out tests. Some of the special equipment they use is automated and it helps in carrying out the tests faster. Some of the computerized equipment of LifeBrite Laboratories is used for carrying out many tests at once. All the data that is collected from the test that is carried out is entered into a patient’s records and this is the work of LifeBrite Laboratories technicians and technologists.
In abnormal patterns in a patient’s test, the LifeBrite Laboratories technicians and technologists will need to discuss the findings with doctors.
Training of laboratory technicians at LifeBrite Laboratories is carried out by medical laboratory technologists. At LifeBrite Laboratories, the supervision of lab work is carried out by medical laboratory technologists. Supervision must be done by people who have the experience and knowledge and medical laboratory technologists have both of these.
Supervision can also be carried out by laboratory managers when one goes to some laboratories. There are specialized medical laboratory technologists who work in large laboratories and one will find immunology technologists, clinical chemistry technologist, blood bank technologist, cytotechnologist among others when they go to the large laboratories. It takes time before one can be able to specialize in the different areas. Advanced training may be required for one to be able to specialize in some of the areas listed above.
